The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), centrally-funded technical Institutes (CFTIs), Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) and all branches of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) are among the highly sought-after engineering institutes in India that offer admission based on JEE score.
Phases of Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is divided into phases and below are the details for each stage:-
Phase 1: Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main
The National Testing Agency (NTA) administers this exam, which is the first stage. This exam is conducted in two sessions in a year: the first session takes place in January and the second session occurs in April. The computer-based qualifying exam for JEE Advanced is called JEE Main. The exam is administered at the undergraduate level to grant admission to some of the top privately or publicly financed engineering and technical colleges.
The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main consists of two parts:
- Paper 1: Designed for candidates seeking admission to engineering programs at NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs, and also serves as a prerequisite for JEE Advanced, which is required for entry into IITs.
- Paper 2A & 2B: For students aiming for B. Arch and B. Planning courses
Phase 2: Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced
The only candidates who can appear in JEE Advanced are the top 2.5 lakh (2,50,000) candidates in JEE Main. One of the IITs takes turns hosting this second stage in a rotating manner. Candidates can gain admission to the various undergraduate engineering programs offered by the IITs based on their JEE Advanced marks.
Once candidates qualify, they can apply for admission to undergraduate programs in technical and architecture colleges across the country.
What is the National Testing Agency (NTA)?
The National Testing Agency conducts and regulates JEE Main Examination. The NTA was established for the purpose of conducting entrance exams for fellowships and for admission into higher educational programmes. It is an autonomous, leading, specialized, independent and self-sustaining testing organization
Since its founding in 2018, the organization has solidified its reputation as a leading authority on entrance exams. In addition to the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), it also administers other competitive entrance exams, such as the Jawaharlal Nehru University Entrance Examination (JNUEE), Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test (GPAT), National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), Common Management Admission Test (CMAT), UGC National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) and many more.
